I got a message late on Thursday from Diego who was visiting from Madrid, asking if he could visit The Archive on Friday with his friend Quito (Leo, his son came too and played some exquisite piano). He’d sent the message Wednesday but I’d missed it and Friday he was driving back to Madrid (6 hours). I told him yes you can visit The Archive but I won’t be up till 2 PM because I won’t be in bed till 7 AM so if later afternoon works for you it’s fine. When I woke up I had a message from him saying 3.30 PM worked - perfect. I find that few strangers are interested, people who know me are, but I didn’t think that The Archive was about knowing me, more about being interested in the content - but alas, interest seemingly fades moments after they’ve been told about it because they don’t flock. And yet everyone that does come is amazed - and that is not because of me, it’s because of the accumulation of talent in the shelves, a paradise for the eyes and ears.
