To Where I Am Now

Even if it takes a month for a card to get to Australia, I still think the postal service is amazing. But I wonder about all the tragic stories that unravelled because of letters that never arrived. I had an awful experience with my mum dying before she received a postcard I sent to her from Amsterdam when she was in the hospital in Aberystwyth. We were picking up a van to start a tour in Budapest when I got the news that she had little time left for this world, so we drove to Aberystwyth under dark clouds. We made it just before she died, it was terrible, but then had to get to Budapest with this grief and the unavoidable detour in the wrong direction - she never saw the postcard.
